Cyberbullying: an old problem, a new face

 

Hello guys, We’re Roby, Chiara and Miriam and today we wanna talk to you about an important topic, that everybody should know: the Cyberbullying.

What does mean the word Cyberbullying? The word Cyberbullying was invented by the Canadian educator Bill Belsey, that merged the term “cyber” (used in the IT field, especially when we talk obout internet) and the term bullying: an orribile activity, where a bully offends and harasses a weack person, unable to defend himself.

So we can define cyberbullying as a virtual bullism, a serious problem and the set of aggressive actions, of a singular person or of a group, realized by electronic tools (sms, photos, forum, chat room, webs sites…). This sentence is very important, because it allows all the people of the world to understand the power (positive and negative sides) of Internet and the Apps.

Using the social networks we can get a new job, we can message our friends in just five seconds or we can buy a new dress, only with a simple touch of fingers, but attention please: technology gives the possibility to the bully to enter in people’s life, persecuting the subject with offensive and inappropriate materials. Anything that is uploaded online always remains there,so the privacy disappear and all the insults hit the own mind, constantly intimidating the person!

The bullying can be of different types, in fact, in the past, the scholars divided the cyberbullying in eight categories:

– Flaming: vulgar verbal messages, which provoke online verbal battles.

– Harassment: insulting messages to hurt someone.

– Denigration: gossiping about a guy, to mess up his reputation.

– Person replacement: identity theft.

– Deception: gaining someone’s trust, to share with a lot of people private photos and

informations.

– Exclusion: to exclude people from a group, to make them feel alone.

– Cyberstalking: harassment to strike fear.- Doxing: dissemination of personal information.

Then, we’ve seen that cyberbullying is a big monster and the abuse’s consequences are very strong and dangerous, because they can also cause suicide: the men (example) who receives all the vulgar verbal messages is silent, he doesn’t talk with anyone and he believes that the only way out is the death. Obviously, this isn’t the best way to choose!

If you’re victim of cyberbullying, you must block the bully and talk to an adult, because if bullies lose one victim, they will find another. 

So guys when you see an act of cyberbullying, you must help and, if you don’t do anything you are an accomplice.
